Who We Are

Truly Equal works to ensure gender equality by identifying violations to Title IX’s requirement that any organization receiving federal funds are prohibited from creating or promoting any program or scholarship that prioritizes a gender.

Since 2018, Truly Equal and our partners have reviewed more than 5,000 colleges and universities for compliance with Title IX. Search schools here.

In 2024, Truly Equal’s work found:

  • 97.5% of allegations found men were discriminated against
  • 2.5% of allegations found women were discriminated against

Title IX applies to all aspects of education programs or activities operated by recipients of federal financial assistance.1 In addition to educational institutions such as colleges, universities, and elementary and secondary schools, Title IX also applies to any education or training program operated by a recipient of federal financial assistance.

Context

In 1972, the year Title IX was enacted, there was a 7 percentage point difference between men and women enrolled in higher education.

Today, that difference is 25 percentage points — but the gender difference is flipped.
